Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet potatoes (yams), peeled and sliced into ½-inch rounds
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven: Set to 350°F (175°C). Lightly butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Layer yams: Arrange sweet potato slices evenly in the dish.
  3. Mix sauce: In a bowl, whisk melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour & coat: Pour the mixture evenly over the sweet potatoes, coating all slices.
  5. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake 15–20 more minutes until bubbly and caramelized.
  6. Serve: Spoon the syrup over the yams before serving. Delicious alongside fried chicken or baked ham.
